About California Water and Fire

We're a local, IICRC-standard water damage restoration crew serving San Francisco and the Bay Area. When a supply line lets go, an appliance fails, or a leak spreads behind plaster, you reach a real person on our line and a real Bay Area crew at your door.

Local to San Francisco and the Bay Area

California Water and Fire is a Bay Area operation — not a national franchise routing your emergency through an out-of-state call center. Our crews work the Peninsula and the East Bay every day, from the city's hills down through Daly City and the mid-Peninsula and across the bridges into Oakland and beyond, so we can usually be on-site the same visit rather than the next day. When you phone us at night, the person who answers can tell you where the truck is.

Because we live and work here, we know the local failure modes cold. San Francisco's cool, fog-damp climate means a wall or subfloor that gets wet barely dries on its own — moisture lingers, and a leak that would air-dry in a hot climate quietly feeds mold here instead. Much of the housing stock is pre-war: Victorians and Edwardians with lath-and-plaster walls, tongue-and-groove subfloors, and finished ground-floor garages and in-law units that sit low and collect whatever runs down from above. A water heater or supply line that fails on an upper floor sends water straight down through those old cavities, and plaster holds it long after the surface looks dry. We've extracted, dried, and rebuilt our way through all of it.

Our certifications & standards

Restoration done wrong looks fine on the surface and rots underneath. Ours is held to documented standards:

  • IICRC-standard methods. We work to the standards of the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification — the benchmark most manufacturers and insurers expect. We dry to the IICRC S500 water-damage standard, with moisture readings to prove it.
  • Licensed & insured in California. We carry liability coverage and the appropriate California credentials, so you and your property are protected during the work.
  • Moisture verified, not eyeballed. We don't pack up because a surface feels dry. We use pin and pinless meters plus thermal imaging and keep working until readings confirm the structure is genuinely dry — the only way to stop mold in the Bay Area's damp air.
  • Documented from hour one. Every job gets a photo and moisture record built for your insurance claim from the first hour on site.

If you'd like to verify our credentials before work begins, ask when you call — we'll share our certification and insurance details directly.

How we work with homeowners

The first hour of a water loss sets up everything that follows. When you call, we ask the right questions, give you an honest ETA, and tell you what to do to stay safe before we arrive. On site, we find the source, stop the inflow, extract standing water, and set drying equipment — then document the loss while it's fresh.

What sets us apart day to day is that one crew carries the job from extraction to rebuild. There's no handoff gap between a mitigation company that dries your home and a separate contractor that rebuilds it weeks later. We extract, dry to verified readings, then repair the plaster, drywall, flooring, and paint back to pre-loss condition. One point of contact, one timeline, one record for your insurer.

And we're straight with you about cost. We don't advertise a "free estimate," because an accurate number depends on what the moisture meters reveal once we're on site — surface water can hide a soaked subfloor. Instead, we assess the actual damage, walk you through the scope before we start, document the loss, and work directly with your insurer on covered work. What's ultimately covered, and your deductible, are your carrier's call — thorough documentation gives the claim its best footing.
